About Program
The Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering is an interdisciplinary programmecombining diverse engineeringdisciplines, particularly Mechanical and Chemical engineering principles.
The programme provides a broad base of general engineering courses as a foundation for studies in textile engineering.Textile engineering courses cover the application of scientific and engineering principles to all aspects of textile and apparel manufacturing. These include wet chemical processing, and maintenance of machineries. In the final year of the programme, students select one from the following fourmajors:
- Yarn Manufacturing Engineering,
- Fabric Manufacturing Engineering,
- Wet Processing Engineering, and
- Apparel Manufacturing Engineering.
Industrial experience is a very important adjunct to textile engineering education, andhence, an Industrial Internship is a compulsory part of the curriculum. The department takes the responsibility to place students in a textile mill/garments factory for the Industrial Internship.
The programme is designedfor preparing young engineers for the textile industry and beyond.
Special features
-
Welcoming environment
We offera welcoming, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
-
Teaching and support
Experienced academic staff will teach you in small classes with personal attention.
-
Being part of the University
As an undergraduate at the City University, you will have access to all university facilities.
Open days
Weorganise open days periodically where you can find out more about our courses, meet our academic staff, and see our facilities. Attending an open day is a wonderful way to feel what studying at City is like. Find out about our upcoming open days here.
A typical week
The workload depends on the credits you take in a semester. Assuming you take 12 credits comprising of 3 theory courses and 2 laboratory courses, you will have approximately 6 lectures and 4 laboratory classes. The length of each lecture/class is 1 hour and 20 minutes. The lectures and laboratory classes are typically spread over 4 days in a week.
For the Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering - Evening Programme (Part-time), lectures and laboratory classes are held over three days in a week, namely Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
We offer small class sizes with personal attention from academics. Laboratory group sizes are designed to allow students to discuss the contents of specific experiments with an academic, technical staff and their peers.
Lectures are delivered by the academic staff of the department, who usually have years of teaching experience. Laboratory classes are supervised by experienced academics and technical staff.
The breakdown of the total 156 semester credits is given as follows:
